INDIA · SPITI VALLEY · 2026

Spiti
Sovereign.
Expedition

8 Nights – 9 Days · Shimla to Manali · Up to 4,550m · Max 16 riders

A Fully Supported, High-Altitude Riding Experience

Spiti is not a destination you visit. It is one you survive, and then spend years trying to describe to people who weren’t there. A cold desert plateau at over 4,000 metres, ringed by naked mountains and cut by a river the colour of glacial milk — it is where the Himalayas stop being scenery and start being experience.

The Spiti Sovereign Expedition runs for nine days from Shimla through Kinnaur and into the heart of the valley — Tabo, Dhankar, Kaza, Key Monastery, Hikkim, Langza — before crossing Kunzum Pass and descending to Manali. Every detail is arranged. You show up. You ride.

DAY BY DAY

The Route

Each day is paced for the rider, not the tourist. We ride when the light is right and stop when the road demands it.

Day 0Arrival @ Manali

Slow Down
Before You Ride

Arrive in Manali from different parts of India and step into a completely different pace of life—cool mountain air, cedar forests, and a sense of calm that sets the tone for the journey ahead.
Today is intentionally kept light and unstructured.

  • No bike allocation today
  • No rush, no formalities
  • Just time to unwind, acclimatise, and settle in

Take a walk through the quaint streets, enjoy a warm meal, and let your body adjust to the altitude.

Tomorrow, the real journey begins.

Day 1Manali → Tirthan Valley

Ease Into
the Ride

The day begins with a comprehensive briefing:

  • What to expect on this expedition
  •  Riding protocols & safety
  • Introduction to your ride captain, crew, and fellow riders

These are the people who will soon feel like family.

You’ll then be introduced to your machine — the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 — and take time to get comfortable with it.

The ride to Tirthan is intentionally short and smooth:

  • A mix of flowing tarmac and light adventure sections
  • Gradual immersion into mountain riding

As you approach Tirthan Valley, the landscape shifts into dense forests and pristine riverbeds, part of the Great Himalayan National Park ecosystem.

Why Tirthan?

  • Peaceful, uncrowded, and deeply scenic
  • Perfect for a soft landing in the Himalayas
  • A place to relax before the terrain gets serious

Evening by the riverside, surrounded by silence and stars.

Day 2Tirthan → Kalpa

First Pass,
First Milestone

Post breakfast, the ride begins with your first real climb toward Jalori Pass (Jalori Jot).

At the top:

  • We pause
  • Take in the views
  • Seek blessings for a safe and memorable expedition

From here, the descent opens into long, flowing tarmac stretches—a rider’s delight.

As you move deeper into Kinnaur:

  • Roads hug mountains
  • Valleys widen
  • The terrain begins to feel more dramatic

You arrive at Kalpa, the Himalayan headquarters of Kinnaur.

What makes Kalpa special?

  • Uninterrupted views of Kinnaur Kailash
  • Crisp mountain air
  • Quiet Himalayan charm

Spend your evening exploring:

  • Kalpa village
  • Reckong Peo market

From here onward, crowds fade… and the real Himalayas begin.

Day 3Kalpa → Chitkul → Tabo

Into the
Cold Desert

Wake up to a stunning sunrise over Kinnaur Kailash—a moment worth slowing down for.

After breakfast, we ride toward Chitkul, the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibet border.

The Ride to Chitkul:

  • A scenic detour from the main highway
  • Passing through Sangla Valley
  • Views of the Baspa River and reservoir

It’s a fun, slightly adventurous stretch—perfectly balancing thrill and beauty.

After soaking in Chitkul, we head back to the main highway and continue toward Nako:

  • A quiet high-altitude village
  • A subtle transition point into Spiti’s stark landscape

From here, the terrain shifts dramatically:

  • Green fades into brown
  • Valleys become wider and harsher

You arrive at Tabo, your gateway into Spiti.

The Himalayas feel very different here—raw, vast, and powerful.

Day 4Tabo → Kaza

Culture
Meets Landscape

The day starts with a visit to the iconic Tabo Monastery, often called the “Ajanta of the Himalayas.”

From here, the ride is short but incredibly rich:

  • Follow the Spiti River
  • Pass through small, remote villages
  • Experience open valley riding

We stop at the breathtaking Dhankar Monastery:

  • Dramatically perched on a cliff
  • Overlooking the confluence of rivers

Take a short walk, absorb the silence, and enjoy lunch nearby.

From here, it’s a smooth ride to Kaza, the heart of Spiti.

In Kaza:

  • Comfortable premium stay
  • Café culture
  • A chance to relax and recharge

This is your base for deeper exploration.

Day 5Explore Kaza

High-Altitude
Icons

Today, we slow things down and explore Spiti’s most iconic high-altitude villages:

📍 Langza

  • Known for fossils and the giant Buddha statue
  • Wide-open views that feel almost surreal

📍 Hikkim

  • Home to the world’s highest post office
  • Send a postcard from one of the most remote places on Earth

📍 Komic

  • Among the highest motorable villages in the world
  • Raw, untouched, and deeply peaceful

This day is not about rushing.

It’s about:

  • Riding slow
  • Taking it in
  • Experiencing Spiti, not just ticking it off

Evening back in Kaza:

  • Café hopping
  • Conversations
  • Rest and recovery

Day 6Kaza → Chandratal

Crossing
Kunzum Pass

High-Altitude Ride into the Wild

Today is one of the most anticipated and rewarding riding days of the expedition.

We begin early from Kaza and ride through remote Spiti terrain, gradually leaving behind the familiarity of the valley.

Key Highlights:

  • Ride past the iconic Chicham Bridge — Asia’s highest suspension bridge
  • Transition into more rugged, less-travelled sections
  • Gradual climb toward Kunzum Pass (~15,000 ft)

At Kunzum Pass:

  • Stop for a break and take in panoramic Himalayan views
  • Visit the Kunzum Mata temple for blessings before descending

From here, we take the off-road route toward Chandratal Lake:

  • Narrow trails
  • Raw terrain
  • A true high-altitude riding experience

Arrival Experience:

A short guided walk brings you to Chandratal:

  • A crescent-shaped lake set against barren mountains
  • Changing colours through the day

Stay:

  • Premium campsite setup
  • Warm dinner under the stars
  • One of the clearest night skies in the Himalayas

This is where the expedition feels truly remote—and unforgettable.

Day 7Chandratal → Manali

The Descent
to Civilisation

From Raw Terrain to Refined Roads

After an early breakfast, we begin our descent toward Manali.

The first stretch:

  • Rough, off-road terrain
  • Stream crossings
  • Technical riding sections

As we move into Lahaul Valley, the landscape slowly softens:

  • Wider roads
  • Increasing greenery

We then pass through the engineering marvel, the Atal Tunnel:

  • A smooth and rapid transition back to Manali

Arrival in Manali:

By evening, you’re back in comfort.

Tonight:

  • Celebration dinner
  • Stories from the road
  • Reliving the journey as a group

From extreme terrain to complete comfort—this contrast defines the experience.

Day 8Departure

Take It
Back With You

Wake up with a sense of accomplishment.

  • Exchange contacts
  • Take a final stroll through Manali
  • Carry back stories, friendships, and a ride that stays with you

The mountains don’t leave you—they stay.
