THAILAND · MAE HONG SON LOOP · 2027

1800
Loops of

Thailand

8 Days · Ex Mumbai/Bangalore · Flights included · Max 16 riders

There is a road in Northern Thailand that every rider who has ever ridden it will tell you about — unprompted, in detail, with a particular expression. The Mae Hong Son Loop. One thousand, eight hundred and sixty-four curves through misty mountain ranges, dense teak forests, hill-tribe villages, and river valleys that run alongside the Myanmar border. Smooth tarmac where you want it. Gravel trails where the route earns a little respect. Then smooth tarmac again.

This isn’t just a ride — it’s a cultural and scenic journey on two wheels through one of Asia’s most captivating landscapes.

We start in Chiang Mai — Thailand’s cultural capital — and ride a complete loop through Doi Inthanon National Park, Mae Hong Son province, the hill-tribe settlements near the border, the cave country around Soppong, and the bohemian mountain town of Pai, before returning to Chiang Mai through the northern highlands. Bangkok waits at the end with its temples, its chaos, and its excellent rooftop bars.

We include return flights from Mumbai or Bengaluru, an overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, all motorcycles and fuel, hotels and guesthouses hand-picked for location and comfort, and a guide who has ridden this loop enough times to know where the best coffee stop is at kilometre 340.

DAY BY DAY

The Route

Eight days that move through three different registers — the quiet anticipation of the overnight train north, the focused pleasure of the loop itself, and the loud, brilliant chaos of Bangkok at the end.

Day 01India → Bangkok → Chiang Mai

A Warm Beginning
to a Beautiful Journey

Your adventure begins as you fly from India to Bangkok. Upon arrival, our team welcomes you and guides you to a cosy spot for a light evening snack — your first taste of Thailand. Over a simple toast with your fellow riders, we raise a cheer to the journey ahead: new friendships, new roads, and memories waiting to be made.

As Bangkok’s city lights begin to glow, we board the classic overnight train to Chiang Mai — a charming, unhurried way to ease into the spirit of Northern Thailand. The rhythmic sway of the train, the passing countryside, and the quiet conversations set the perfect tone for the adventure of a lifetime.

Flight to Bangkok followed by an Overnight Train Journey.

DAY 02Chiang Mai → Doi Inthanon - 60 km

The First Taste
of the Mountains

This is the day you’ve been waiting for — the moment the adventure truly comes alive. After breakfast, you meet your motorcycle. A short test ride to ensure the bike becomes an extension of you. Our team makes any necessary adjustments, then we gather for a calm route briefing. First day rhythm: relaxed pace, light distance, eyes wide open.

We ride toward the cool, green embrace of Doi Inthanon National Park — home to Thailand’s highest peak, twin royal pagodas emerging from the clouds, and waterfalls fed by mist. By evening, we settle into the serene surroundings of the national park. This is not a hotel at a location. It is a location that happens to have a bed in it.

The mountains never reveal themselves all at once. They reward those who climb patiently.

Day 03Doi Inthanon → Mae Hong Son - 193 km

The Day We
Truly Open Up

Today, the loop opens up. We ease into the saddle and gradually pick up pace — not rushing, but flowing with the road. Soaring mountain ranges, lush green forests, and long, smooth Thai highways running parallel to the Myanmar border. The scenery shifts constantly. Valleys, ridges, farmland, and hilltop curves make this route a rider’s dream.

Along the way, we visit a traditional Kayen (Long Neck) village — a respectful, grounding stop that adds meaning to the adventure. Countless viewpoints invite us to pause, take in the panorama, and let the ride breathe. By evening, we roll into the peaceful mountain province of Mae Hong Son. The air here is a degree cooler—the quiet, a register deeper.

Every valley tells a different story, and every border reveals a new view.

DAY 04Mae Hong Son → Pai - 180 km

Border Culture,
Cave Wonders &
Mountain Curves

A gentle sunrise and another beautiful day on the road. We begin with a meaningful stop at a border village near the Thailand-Myanmar frontier, where fresh local teas and the calm rhythm of mountain life make the journey richer. From here, the ride unfolds through some of the finest mountain curves of the region.

Midway through, we stop at the remarkable Lod Caves — an enormous cave system entered by a quiet wooden raft. Inside: cool air, ancient formations, and a soft glimmer of sunlight creating an almost spiritual atmosphere. Then on to Pai — one of Thailand’s most relaxed and artistic mountain towns. Bohemian cafés, live music, street food stalls. The evening is for the Pai Walking Street, at your own pace.

◆ Tomorrow, the expedition leaves the road behind and steps into the Mae Hong Son.

Day 05Exploring Pai

Gentle Moments,
Green Trails &
a Sunset to Remember

Today is about slowing down and soaking in the peaceful charm of Pai. Begin with a relaxed breakfast at a local café, or ride early to the White Buddha viewpoint for a serene sunrise over the town. The silence, the light, the view — the kind of moment that stays with you.

During the day, the Bamboo Bridge stretches across rice fields and gentle valleys. A nearby waterfall where cool mountain water recharges your spirits. And in the evening, Pai Canyon — where the setting sun paints the sky in gold and orange, and standing at the rim, overlooking the rugged landscape below, you understand why people extend their stays here. A soft, easy day — but one filled with memories you’ll cherish.

To know Pai is to understand that Thailand is much more about its beauty than a Party all night destination.

DAY 06Pai → Chiang Mai - 135 km

A Beautiful Farewell
to the Mountains

The final stretch of riding through the mountains — a day to savour every curve, every breeze, and every last bit of Northern Thailand’s magic. Ease out of Pai and follow the route through rolling hills, quiet forests, and wide-open valleys. The ride is smooth and scenic, giving you space to simply breathe and enjoy the beauty around you.

A stop at Mok Fa Waterfall to cool off and stretch. The road winds gently through the edges of Huay Nam Dang National Park. Then the descent back into Chiang Mai — completing the loop. There is a quiet satisfaction in the air that only comes after days of riding with heart and soul. The evening is yours for a warm dinner with your riding family.

Some destinations inspire awe. Others inspire gratitude. Chiang Mae leaves you with both.

DAY 07Chiang Mai → Bangkok

Culture, Temples &
a Night to Explore

After days of peaceful mountains, we shift into a different kind of adventure — the vibrant, colourful energy of Bangkok. We begin with visits to the Grand Palace and the sacred Emerald Buddha, followed by a serene walk to Wat Pho, home to the graceful Reclining Buddha. Timeless landmarks that offer a beautiful glimpse into Thailand’s royal and spiritual heritage.

From here onward, the rest of the day is entirely yours. The city has something for every mood: Chatuchak Weekend Market with 15,000 stalls, Khaosan Road’s street bars and live music, IconSiam’s riverside spectacle, or simply the Chao Phraya River at night from a dinner cruise. Bangkok rewards the explorer who hasn’t had enough yet.

Every road eventually descends. The memories never do.

DAY 08Bangkok → India

Until
We Ride Again

Every adventure eventually reaches its final chapter. This morning, we take a moment to reflect — the mountains we rode through, the roads we shared, the people we met, and the friendships that now feel like something longer. A private transfer to Bangkok International Airport for your flight back to India.

As you board, you carry not just photos and souvenirs, but the quiet joy of knowing you lived an unforgettable adventure — one that will stay with you long after the tyres stopped rolling. This may be the end of the ride, but not the end of your story. Northern Thailand will always welcome you back. And so will the open road.

Whatever stays with you…

…it becomes part of your story.

Adios.

BEFORE YOU GO

What to know

Rider Fitness
This is the most approachable TripWeiser expedition. No extreme altitude. No unpaved mountain passes. A valid licence and comfort on two wheels is what you need. The loop rewards attentiveness, not extreme experience.
Climate
Northern Thailand is warm and tropical, 20–35°C across the route, depending on altitude. The national park around Doi Inthanon can feel cool in the early morning. Pack light, breathable layers. A rain jacket is essential from October to February.
Best season
November to February offers the clearest skies, coolest mornings, and best riding conditions. March–May is hotter and drier. June–October is monsoon season — beautiful scenery, greener roads, but rain is part of the deal.
Money
Thai Baht (THB). ATMs are available throughout the route, including Mae Hong Son and Pai. Credit cards are accepted at hotels and larger restaurants. Street food and local markets are cash-only — carry small notes.
Connectivity
Thailand has excellent mobile coverage across the entire country. A Thai SIM from the Bangkok airport costs under ₹1000 and provides fast 4G/5G throughout. Unlike our Himalayan tours, you will not be unreachable.
Documents needed
Valid Indian passport with at least 6 months remaining. Thailand grants Indian nationals a visa-free stay of up to 30 days. An international driving permit (IDP) is recommended and can be procured at the regional RTO offices before departure.
